Sunfall: a focused iPhone app,
built and published.

A native app for golden hour, sun position, and the moon. From SwiftUI screens and validated calculations to a product website and a public App Store release.

The released app brings light windows, sun and moon positions, and a golden-hour reminder together.

The brief

Build a focused iPhone app that helps people plan around natural light. The core experience needed to show what happens next, when it happens, and which way to look, including after sunset.

HH Web Studios designed and built Sunfall in Swift and SwiftUI, validated its astronomy calculations, and completed the supporting website and App Store publishing work.

What was delivered

  • A native iPhone interface: a draggable 24-hour sky ribbon, golden and blue hour windows, sunrise and sunset bearings, and moon information.
  • Calculations on the device: sun and moon positions for a selected place and date, without a hosted calculation service.
  • Planning tools: saved places, local times, and an optional reminder before evening golden hour.
  • A public release: the App Store listing, product website, privacy information, and support contact.

Searching for a new place by name uses Apple's geocoding service. Saved places and the astronomy calculations work without a network connection.

Checks behind the interface

The development process compared the solar and lunar engines with independent reference calculations before checking their Swift implementations. The interface also needed to handle nights that cross midnight and locations where the sun does not rise or set.

The published development notes document the reference checks and the issues they caught. The studio article explains how that work fits into a complete release.

The result is available to use

Sunfall is live on the App Store for iPhone with iOS 17 or later. The US price is $4.99, paid once, with no subscription or in-app purchases.
